Training goal and Rest Mode

The five training goals in Titan, the Exertion range each one sets, how Rest Mode changes your target, and the weekly sessions target.

Published September 24, 2026

Your training goal tells Titan how hard you plan to train right now. It sets the base range for your daily Exertion target and picks the coaching on Trends. Rest Mode is a separate switch that drops today's target to the recovery range and leaves your goal in place.

01Where to set it

Both paths open the same Your Training screen.

  1. Tap your avatar on Today to open You, then tap the Your Training tile.
  2. Tap your avatar on Today, then go to You > Settings > Training & Heart Rate.

Tap Training Goal, pick a goal, and tap the checkmark to save. New installs start on Building.

02The five goals

Each goal sets a base Exertion range on the 0 to 10 scale. The descriptions are the app's own.

GoalBase Exertion rangeDescription in the app
Peak Training7.0 to 9.0The highest level of training, for example you are training for a marathon or triathlon, or are nearing race day and want to achieve your highest possible level of fitness.
Building5.5 to 7.5Training at a high level but below peak. For example you are beginning to train for a race, or just generally want to increase your fitness level.
Maintaining4.0 to 6.0Maintaining your current fitness level. For example you are not building towards an event but want to retain your current fitness.
Tapering2.5 to 4.5Reducing training load to shed fatigue. For example you are approaching a race or are coming off a high-load block.
Injured or Resting0.0 to 2.0You may want to take it easy due to injury, illness, or a planned recovery period.

Titan then shifts that range each day with your Recovery and recent training. Exertion target explains the shifts.

03What the goal changes

The goal sets the target band on the Exertion ring on Today and the target on the Exertion screen. On Trends, the Recovery vs Exertion card counts the days you landed below, inside, or above the goal's base range and writes coaching for your goal. Days below the range on Building suggest room to add intensity or volume. The same days on Tapering read as normal. The Recovery-Based Training and Training Load cards also word their coaching by goal. On Workouts, the goal sets the order of Workout Suggestions.

04Your goal and sleep need

The goal screen says the goal is used for Target Sleep. No sleep calculation in the current app reads it. Your sleep need is the Sleep Debt Threshold, 7.5 hours by default, on every goal. Change it under Settings > Recovery & Sleep. See sleep debt.

05Rest Mode

Rest Mode is a toggle on Your Training and is off by default. Turning it on changes four things.

  • The Exertion screen uses the 0.0 to 2.0 range of Injured or Resting whatever your goal. Recovery and recent load no longer shift it, and no stretch target opens.
  • The coaching text reads "Rest Mode keeps today's target in the recovery range. Favor rest, mobility, or easy movement."
  • The Exertion screen suggests Recovery, Easy Run, and Walk.
  • The Target Exertion Reached notification stops.

Your saved goal stays as it was. The Exertion ring on Today, the Trends coaching, and Workout Suggestions keep following it.

06Sessions per week

Sessions per Week sits on Your Training. Set any value from 1 to 30. The default is 7. The stepper stays disabled until you have set up your profile.

The Your Training tile on You shows your goal and a count such as 4 / 5. The first number is your workouts from the last 7 days. The second is your target. The target only drives this tile and does not change your Exertion range.
