Net Energy is the food energy you logged today minus the energy you burned. Titan reads both numbers from Apple Health and shows the result on the Net Energy card on Today. The detail screen breaks the number down into burned and consumed energy, macros, daily history and body mass.
01How Net Energy is calculated
Titan subtracts burned energy from consumed energy for the calendar day, from midnight to now. A negative number means you burned more than you ate. A positive number means you ate more than you burned. If you log 2,000 Cal and burn 2,500 Cal, Net Energy reads −500.
The number updates through the day and is only as complete as your food log. A breakfast you forgot to log makes the balance look more negative than it was.
Tap the Net Energy card to open the detail screen. The ring shows the balance in the center, labeled Net energy today. The orange ring is everything you burned, and the green arc is what you ate as a share of it. When you eat as much as you burn, the green arc closes the ring. A positive number is a surplus and a negative number is a deficit. Neither is marked good or bad, since that depends on your goal.
The Energy balance section lists Consumed and Burned as two bars on the same scale, so you can compare them at a glance.
02Burned energy
Burned energy is active energy plus basal energy, both read from Apple Health. Active energy covers movement and exercise, workouts included. Basal energy is what your body uses at rest to keep running. Health calls basal energy Resting Energy. The Energy burned section on the detail screen shows Active, Basal, and Total side by side, with a bar that splits the two. Both add up through the day, so a morning balance reads higher than it will by evening.
03Consumed energy
Consumed energy is the sum of every Dietary Energy entry in Apple Health for the day. Titan does not log food. It has no food search, barcode scanner, or meal diary. You need a separate app that writes meals to Apple Health, and Titan needs permission to read nutrition in Health.
When Health has no food entries for the day, the Consumed row reads No data. Tap its info button for the fix, which is to log food in an app that shares nutrition with Health. Net Energy then counts no intake, so it equals your burned energy as a negative number. Your burned energy still shows. If Titan cannot read food from Health at all, the screen says so and offers Try again.
To see your balance, log meals in an app that shares food with Apple Health, allow Titan to read nutrition, then return to Net Energy and pull down to refresh. Fuel is our nutrition app and writes meals to Health. See nutrition planning with Fuel for how to set it up.
04Macros
The Macros section reads Protein, Carbohydrate, and Fat for the day from Apple Health. Each row shows grams and a percentage. The percentage is that macro's share of energy from your logged macros, using standard values per gram.
| Macro | Energy per gram |
|---|---|
| Protein | 4 Cal |
| Carbohydrate | 4 Cal |
| Fat | 9 Cal |
With 150 g protein, 200 g carbohydrate, and 70 g fat, macro energy totals 600 + 800 + 630 = 2,030 Cal. Protein is 30 percent of that, carbohydrate 39 percent, and fat 31 percent.
All three must be present in Health before Titan draws the bars and percentages. Until then, each row shows the grams it found or No data.
Why macro energy may not match dietary energy
Below the macro bars, when your food app also recorded dietary energy, Titan compares the energy it calculated from your macros with that value and shows the difference. These are separate samples in Health and they do not have to match. Food labels round their values, alcohol carries energy outside the three macros, and some apps log dietary energy for an item without every macro. Net Energy always uses the dietary energy value from Health, never the macro total.
05Energy history
The Energy history chart puts burned and consumed side by side for each day, with a 7 Days, 30 Days, or 60 Days picker. Orange bars are burned. Green bars are consumed. Tap a day to read its burned, consumed, and net values. A missing green bar means Health has no food entries for that day, and the readout says No food logged.
06Body mass
The Body mass section reads weigh-ins from Apple Health. It shows your latest weight with its date and time, a chart of every weigh-in in the selected window, and the change across that window. The window follows the Energy history picker. Titan needs weigh-ins on two different days to show a change. With no weigh-ins in the window, the section says so. Weight displays in kilograms or pounds depending on the Use Metric System setting. To add a weigh-in, touch and hold the Titan icon on your Home Screen and choose Log Weight, which saves it to Health. A smart scale or any app that writes Body Mass to Health also fills this chart.
07Calories or kilojoules
Titan shows energy in calories by default, labeled Cal. To switch, tap your avatar on Today, then the gear on You to open Settings. Go to App Preferences and, under Units, turn on Use Kilojoules. Titan multiplies every value by 4.184 and labels it kJ. The change applies to the Net Energy card and the detail screen. Health keeps storing the original values, so you can switch back at any time.
