Changing your body composition means managing what you eat and what your training and recovery do with it. Titan covers training and recovery. Fuel, our nutrition app, covers intake. They share data through Apple Health, so you set each up once and read both from your phone.

01What Fuel handles

Fuel sets a calorie and macro target for a goal of losing fat, maintaining, or building muscle, at a pace you choose. It builds that target from the energy your Apple Watch measures and corrects it against your weight trend, so a target that was right in week one is still right in week eight. It logs meals, water, and weigh-ins with an offline food library, favorites, Siri, and a quick log from your wrist, and it writes everything to Apple Health.

02What Titan handles

Titan reads your training and recovery from the same watch and tells you whether the phase is working on the body's side.

Net Energy on Today shows each day's balance between what you burned and what Fuel logged. Tap it for a 7, 30, or 60 day energy history and a Body mass chart of your weigh-ins. Net Energy, calories burned and macros explains it.

Recovery and Stress show how you are absorbing a deficit or a heavy training block. A calorie deficit that drives Recovery down for days at a time is too aggressive. Tag diet changes in the Journal and Journal Insights compares those days with your Recovery and Sleep.

Exertion and the training load ratio in Trends keep the work honest. Set your training goal to Building for a muscle gain phase or Maintaining during a fat loss phase, and Titan moves your daily exertion target to match.

Titan Age tracks the long view. Lean mass index, resting heart rate, VO2 max, and strength minutes are among its 11 weekly signals, so a phase that adds muscle or improves fitness shows up there over the following weeks. Titan Age explains the signals.

03Setting up a phase

  1. Set your goal and pace in Fuel and allow it to write Nutrition and Weight to Apple Health.
  2. In Titan, confirm that Titan can read Nutrition and Weight. Tap your avatar on Today, then the gear on You to open Settings, then Health & Connected Apps > Health Permissions. Nutrition planning with Fuel covers the connection.
  3. Set your training goal in Titan. Tap your avatar on Today, tap the Your Training tile, then tap Training Goal.
  4. Weigh in on the schedule Fuel reminds you about. Both apps use the trend.
  5. Check Recovery each morning. If it stays Low for several days, ease the deficit or the training before pushing on.
